Remember those ten plagues that came across Egypt toward the beginning of the book of Exodus, but stayed away from Goshen, where the tribes of Israel were living? If the story were from today, I wonder if the plagues would have been referred to as “variants.”
Sure, God brought these plagues upon Egypt while China, along with some funding from Fauci (among others) brought our variants. But even so, Pharaoh hardened his heart, leading to further plagues. We hardened our hearts, requiring the removal of solutions that work and instead mandating a vaccine that unleashes the next variant.
Like any parallel, this one will break down. but it is a less eskew parallel than I thought it was when this Plagues and Variants concept first came upon me. And before anyone accuses me of eisegesis in this post, allow me to be the first one to admit just that. I would not present this before a church gathering, but in a blog setting, with disclaimers in tow, I believe it to be harmless to anyone willing to read this paragraph.
Evil, foolishness, chaos, disorder. These are the signs of the works of the devil. I use biblical definitions for foolishness, so I am not saying that they are stupid. I am saying that they disregard the wisdom of living in light of the one who created you and reject the truth in their unrighteousness. And these plans may appear to be successful for a time, but they cannot hold together.
Romans 1: 21-25 ESV
For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
Let me know what you think. As for me and my house, we plan to remain residing in Goshen and putting horse paste on the lintel and posts of my front door, just in case you were wondering.
